2021/2022 Premier League campaign is about to kick-start with several clubs looking forward to winning the Premier League title.
However, fans and pundits across the globe believe the title chase for the 2021/2022 season is a close call between two teams, Chelsea and Manchester City.
The latter won the Premier League for the just concluded season while the former won the most prestigious trophy in club football, the UEFA Champions League, in 2020/2021.
Chelsea and Manchester City have both been active in the transfer market as Chelsea are poised to officially announce the signing of Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan while Manchester City on the other hand have completed the signing of Jack Grealish from Aston Villa and are still looking forward to striking a deal to bring in Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane.
Former Chelsea coach and player Frank Lampard however believes that the 2021/2022 Premier League title is not going to be between Chelsea and Manchester City alone as he thinks Manchester United also have what it takes to be title challengers.
He said, “I think you can’t discount Manchester United. They were not far off last year and have gone again and I think brought in really impressive signings and I think Liverpool will be the same.”
“They missed huge players through injury for a big part of last season and the year before they were one of the best teams we’ve seen in the Premier League, so you definitely can’t discount those.”
Frank Lampard also believes that teams pushing from beneath could also pose serious challenges.
“As much as you can’t discount the teams pushing from beneath or just behind. Leicester, we saw them win at the weekend [vs Manchester City], West Ham have improved greatly.
“Aston Villa, they lose Jack Grealish, but they’re bringing in really strong players and have a stronger squad, so it makes for an exciting season and we’ll see.”
