Chelsea missed out on signing 22 year old French centre-back Jules Kounde from Sevilla this summer as the champions league winners failed to come to an agreement with Sevilla on the amount to be paid for the player.
While Chelsea were ready with an offer of around €50 million, Sevilla were insistent on the English club paying nothing short of Kounde’s full release clause which stands at €80 million.
With the departure of Kurt Zouma to West Ham, Chelsea really needed to fill the void left and they were really interested in Kounde and at a point it seemed as though the deal was destined to happen before transfer deadline on the 31st of August but talks stalling close to deadline left Chelsea stranded in their bid for a new centre-back.
The Blues might be going all out again this January for a centre-back and there are chances that Marina Granovskaia and her team would once again try to negotiate a deal with Sevilla for Jules Kounde.
However, reports emanating from Italy suggest that Chelsea are seriously eyeing a move for Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly as an alternative to Jules Kounde.
Italian club, Napoli is said to value Koulibaly at around €50 million and the Blues might just consider negotiating a deal for the 30 year old Senegalese who would have just 18 months left in his Napoli contract by January.
