Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed and promised to hand Man Utd midfielder Jesse Lingard a start in the club’s carabao cup fixture against West Ham on Wednesday.
Jesse Lingard recovered from a disappointing champions league performance last midweek to score a late winner against West Ham to help United to a 2-1 victory yesterday.
It was a villan to hero moment for the Englishman as his stray backpass last midweek gifted Young Boys a late winner over Man Utd in their first champions league game of the season.
Lingard’s return to the ground that saw him gain the boost needed for a career revival was pleasing for everyone except the West Ham fans in the end after the midfielder scored a late winner to break hammers’ heart.
Solskjaer was also pleased with the performance as he expressed his delight for the player.
“I think [yesterday] was a good answer on Jesse [Lingard]. It was quite clear that he wants to fight for his place and want to be a part of a #mufc team he feels is going places. For me, I can’t speak for Jesse now, but he is really contributing.” Solskjaer said to Manchester United’s website.
The gaffer also promised to give Jesse Lingard his first start of the season when the Red devils face West Ham in the carabao cup on Wednesday.
“He’ll play, of course, on Wednesday because we will make a few changes.”
Man Utd are stacked in the attacking midfield positions with the likes of Bruno Fernandes, Paul Pogba, Donny Van De Beek and Juan Mata. Hence, the chance to start a game is one that Jesse Lingard would relish.
