Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed that the club has been in talks with midfielder Jesse Lingard over a new contract.
Lingard whose current Manchester United contract expires at the end of the season has had a rejuvenated career in 2021.
The 28 year old jokes West Ham on loan in the January 2021 transfer window after a difficult period at Manchester United and the move to East London proved the right decision for him as he enjoyed a new lease of life with the Hammers scoring 9 times in 16 appearances.
Lingard looked reborn, a rebirth that saw him pick up the Premier League player of the month award in April as he also forced his way into the conversation for a spot in the England squad.
Amidst strong interest from West Ham to keep him, Jesse Lingard returned to Man Utd this summer, and with the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo, it is not very certain the Englishman would be getting a lot of chances this season.
Man Utd are however impressed with Lingard and keen on keeping their man and Solskjaer confirmed this while speaking to the media in his press conference ahead of the premier league game versus West Ham on Sunday.
“Jesse [Lingard] has come back into us after a great spell at West Ham; he showed his qualities, he’s back into the England squad, scoring goals.
“We really want to see the best of Jesse this season, we support him and we hope to keep him here with us, he’s a red through and through.”
Jesse Lingard made the headlines for the wrong reasons on Tuesday night after committing an error that led to a late winner for Young Boys. He’d be however willing to dust himself up and make a case for himself in the Man Utd starting lineup this season.
