Chelsea’s win streak in the preseason has been halted as they were held to a frustrating draw against Tottenham Hotspur in the Mind Series preseason friendly.
Chelsea had the advantage of a two goal lead, thanks to Hakim Ziyech who has been Chelsea’s best player so far in the preseason.
However, Chelsea’s two goal lead wasn’t enough to hand them the win as Tottenham equalised, courtesy of goals from Lucas Moura and Steven Bergwijn hereby cancelling Hakim Ziyech’s brace.
Thomas Tuchel has lots of players to avail to himself in the upcoming 2021/2022 season and certain players have proven vital while a couple others disappointing.
One of the players who have been phenomenal for Chelsea so far is Hakim Ziyech. The Moroccan has managed to score five goals in four preseason appearances for Chelsea.
He scored a hattrick against Peterborough and a brace against London rivals Tottenham Hotspur and hereby taking his tally to five goals.
Hakim Ziyech’s form will come in handy for Chelsea, however, it will be a source of selection headache for Thomas Tuchel.
Hakim Ziyech has been linked with a move away from Chelsea following his inconsistency in his debut season due to injuries and fatigue. However, looking at how sharp the former Ajax star has been so far, it will be difficult for Chelsea to let go of the playmaker.
With Chelsea having several options upfront and with the arrival of Romelu Lukaku imminent, it remains to be seen how Thomas Tuchel utilises these players.
Thomas Tuchel has also given his verdict on Chelsea’s transfer links to Romelu Lukaku.
He said:”I will not talk about players who don’t play in my squad. He’s a fantastic player but he’s an Inter player and I will not talk about him in this situation.
“You can imagine a lot of players want to come and join but we will not talk about that.
“The board isn’t offering players, that’s not how it works. We talk to the board about players, have our own opinions, and in the end we target players who in our opinion could make our squad strong, which is quite a challenge.
“There are some players of which we think they can be a good target and improvement in our squad. I will not comment on names as I don’t like it when other coaches speak about my players. So hopefully you understand that.”
Another player who could happen to give the Chelsea boss a squad selection worry is Trevoh Chalobah.
Following the expiration of Chalobah’s loan deal at Lorient, the Sierra Leonean returned to Cobham as he looked to impress Thomas Tuchel. However, since his return, he has proven to be a solid centre back following a couple of decent displays against Bournemouth, Arsenal and Tottenham respectively.
With Chelsea getting linked to Jules Kounde and with Trevoh Chalobah hitting the ground running, Thomas Tuchel has a lot of decisions to make before Chelsea clashes with Europa League winners Villarreal in the UEFA Super Cup Competition.
