Chelsea take on Burnley on Saturday, with Frank Lampard’s side hoping to get back to winning ways in the Premier League.

The Blues were held to a goalless draw at Manchester United last weekend, before recording an impressive 4-0 win at Krasnodar in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Goals from Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Christian Pulisic sealed a comfortable victory for Lampard’s side, and served as the perfect warm-up for the Blues’ trip to face Burnley.

Thiago Silva missed the game in Russia but Lampard has confirmed that the veteran Brazilian defender was left out as a precaution, and the former Paris Saint-Germain centre-back is set to return to the team.

“Thiago is fit,” Lampard said in his pre-match press conference. “Taking him out of the trip to Russia was more of a maintenance issue for him and I spoke to him about it.

“We’re just trying to make sure we get the best out of him over the course of a season and in this schedule where we have game after game after game, it made sense [for him not to be involved] in a game which involved a lot of travelling.

“If he had to play that game then of course he could have done but we have to put it in context of what we’ve got ahead of us.

“In the end it was a nice exercise with the fact we got a result and Toni Rudiger came into the team and played really well, which is the competition we need.”

Kepa Arrizabalaga also missed the game with an injury, but Lampard said the Spaniard had a chance of making the squad.

“Kepa is outside as I speak and has had some progression in his shoulder injury so we’re hopeful but we’ll see with that one.

“In terms of the rest of the squad, we don’t have any clear injuries but we do have a bit of a tired group.

“We arrived back quite late, in the early hours of this morning, so I’ll have to assess everybody today and tomorrow to see how they’ve settled down and we’ll see where we’re at.”
