With Romelu Lukaku to Chelsea gaining momentum, it is important to know the jersey the former Manchester United man will like to take up at the club.
Romelu Lukaku has previously worn the No.9 jersey at Manchester United and is currently wearing the No.9 jersey for Inter Milan and for Belgium national team.
Putting on his favourite No.9 jersey at Chelsea (if he signs) would be difficult unless Chelsea sanctions the sale of the jersey holder Tammy Abraham this summer.
Tammy Abraham has fallen down the pecking order at Chelsea and the English striker has been linked with a move across London to Arsenal, West Ham and Tottenham.
The Chelsea star has also been recently linked with a move to Italy as Atalanta are willing to pay up Chelsea’s £34m valuation of the English striker to replace the Inter bound Duvan Zapata, whom Inter Milan are looking up to, in case Chelsea completes the transfer of Romelu Lukaku.
However, from fans point of view, taking up the No.9 shirt doesn’t sit well with them as they believe there are superstitions surrounding the jersey number.
It is believed that majority of Chelsea strikers that picks up the No.9 shirt fails to live up to the hype as evident in players like Hernan Crespo, Franco Di Santo, Fernando Torres, Radamel Falcao, Alvaro Morata, Gonzalo Higuain and several others.
The aforementioned players suffered a huge setback following the acquisition of the No.9 jersey, making them a shadow of their former self at the club (Chelsea).
However, it remains to be seen if Lukaku will request for a separate jersey or try to break the curse by receiving his favourite No.9 jersey at Chelsea.
