It isn’t news that German National Thomas Tuchel joined Chelsea late January as the new Head Coach of the West London club following the sacking of club Legend Frank Lampard.
However, the contract signed by the German was a short one with an initial length of 18 months with an option to extend by an extra year.
Tuchel openly admitted before Sunday’s 2-0 win over Burnley that he was initially unhappy at only being offered such short deal.
“At first it was a concern, I was a little like, ‘Oh, why 18 months?” Tuchel said.
“But after only one minute I thought: ‘What does it change? What does it change if they give me four and a half years? They could sack me anyway.”
He further added that the chance to extend his contract if he is successful increased his willingness to join.
According to new reports from the Daily Mail, Tuchel will ONLY be offered a new contract at Chelsea if he keeps Chelsea in the Champions league within two seasons.
Chelsea currently sit 7th in the Premier League as the Blues seeks to regain a top 4 spot.
Tuchel has had a good start at Chelsea despite just being less than a week old at the club.
