Preview: Man Utd vs Villareal (current form, team news and predictions)

Manchester United host Villareal in a repeat of the 2021 UEL final. The red devils would be looking for revenge as they suffered a heartbreaking loss on penalties to Villareal in May, a game Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says his players have no fond memories of.

Villareal boss, Unai Emery is looking forward to the game against Man Utd and according to him Solskjaer’s side would be more difficult to face given the fact that they lost their opening game.

Emery also feels his side would have to be at their very best to get a positive result at Old Trafford.

Unai Emery: “ManUtd are one of the biggest clubs in the world. They’re the favourites for the group. For us, playing at Old Trafford is an honour.”

Unai Emery: “It will be an exciting match. We will need to compete at our very best if we want to get a positive result.”

Current Form:

Manchester United have lost thrice in their last 4 games including a UCL matchday 1 loss to group F underdogs Young Boys fc and a 1 nil defeat that came a week ago at home to West Ham United which saw them exit the carabao cup earlier than expected.

The result away at Aston Villa on Saturday meant it was back to back losses for the red devils and they’ll be definitely hungry for a bounce back when they face Villareal tonight.

Villareal are also with just 1 win in their last 4 games but they’re unbeaten in this period that included a 2-2 draw on UCL matchday 1 with Italian powerhouse Atalanta.

The yellow submarines won’t be short of confidence heading into tonight’s game though as they were able to hold La Liga giants Real Madrid to a goalless draw on Saturday.

Team News:

Manchester United are set to be without captain Harry Maguire who suffered an Injury against Aston Villa on Saturday. Left-back Luke Shaw was also subbed off in the course of Saturday’s game due to an injury but Solskjaer is hoping he’d be fit for tonight’s game.

Marcus Rashford and Amad Dialo have returned to training for United but both players remain ruled out as they’re still training outside the main group until they attain full fitness.

Villareal meanwhile have not recorded any new injury issues but Unai Emery’s side still remain without long term injury absentee Samuel Chukwueze.

Tonight’s game would certainly be a mouthwatering encounter as both sides would be looking to cancel each other out.

Man Utd though have superior quality in personnel with the likes of Ronaldo, Varane, and Bruno Fernandes in their team and in what seems like a do or die affair for the red devils, we expect them to edge this one out and get their first win of this season’s champions league campaign.
