Brighton has completed the signing of 20-year-old Chelsea defender Jack Wakely on loan till the end of the season.
The 20-year-old attracted interest from a number of clubs and has been keen to get some first-team experience.
The defender was in had no hope of playing for the first team at Stamford Bridge, despite being a regular across Chelsea’s youth sides in recent years and signed a new contract last year which runs until the summer of 2021.
Wakely will not be playing first team football at Brighton too during this spell, but will play a crucial role while playing for the club’s U-23 side.
The Brighton head of academy John Morling expressed his delight in a recent interview on the conclusion of the defender’s loan move.
“We wanted to bring an extra option at the centre of defence, and we are delighted Jack has agreed to join until the end of the season.” Morling said.
“He will give us that additional competition in that area of the pitch, and over the coming months we can work with Jack and get to know him.” Morling concluded.
