There were lots of stories and transfer activities on this summer’s transfer deadline day. Little wonder days after the window closed, stories and details we didn’t know about are still emanating.
According to British media outlet, Daily Star, Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola turned down a chance to Spain midfielder Saúl Niguez who ended up joining Chelsea on loan from Atletico Madrid.
Spanish champions Atlético Madrid were said to be in negotiations with English champions Man City for a deal that would have seen Saúl Niguez join the Cityzens in exchange for Bernado Silva but Man City rejected the bid as they wanted the full sum of £40 million paid outrightly for Silva. Plus Pep Guardiola was not willing to add Saúl Niguez to his squad.
This gave Chelsea the last minute opportunity to swoop and the London side eventually signed the Spaniard who joined on loan with the Blues having an option to make the deal permanent for £30 million.
Saúl Niguez has started adjusting to life at Chelsea and the Spaniard has been handed the number 17 shirt by his new club.
