While men’s football is on international break, women’s football will be active this weekend as Manchester United women kicked off the 2021/22 season earlier tonight.
The team finished the previous campaign in 4th position on the FA Women’s Super League table, 10 points behind champions Chelsea and they’d be looking to challenge for the title this season.
The first step to a title charge was taken tonight and it was a step taken in the right direction as Manchester United women beat Reading women’s team 2-0 at Leigh Sports Village in front of their home fans courtesy of a goal in each half from Kristy Hanson and Ona Battle.
It was a historic game as the match became the first ever women’s game to be televised on Sky Sports. This is part of a new broadcasting deal for the new season.
Teams like Everton, Leicester City, Arsenal amongst others are also scheduled to be in action this weekend.
