Manchester United have identified English midfielder, Declan Rice as a priority signing next summer. This is according to The Independent who are reporting that the West Ham midfielder is seen as the missing piece at the club and the best player to play alongside Paul Pogba in midfield.
Manchester United made a lot of statement signings this summer but they still failed to strengthen in an area where they are in dire need of strength, and that is the ‘number 6’ position.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s charges have been one of the teams to beat this season but that position in front of the back 4 remains one area of manifest weaknesses that the red devils must strengthen if they’re to compete with the likes of City, Chelsea and Liverpool for the title.
Declan Rice meanwhile has continued to ooze quality every time he’s played. The West Ham midfielder was on target for the Hammers last night in the Europa league as they beat Dinamo Zagreb 2-0 away from home. A goal which once again emphasized the kind of quality the midfielder possesses.
Rice’s ball playing and defensive abilities looks quite unreal for a 22 year old. Little wonder Chelsea have also been mentioned in talks regarding the player’s next destination.
Declan Rice was also one of England’s key performers in their famous run to the final of the Euro 2020 and he has vast experience at club level also as he has already made 150 appearances for West Ham at just the age of 22.
The Chelsea academy product is valued at £100 million by West Ham who clearly have no intention of letting him go. Hence, Man Utd might face an uphill task of landing him next summer. More so, they are likely to face opposition from Chelsea and other clubs who have been lurking for the Englishman’s signature.
