Manchester United have completed the signing of Van de Beek for a fee of £40m but where can the Dutch fit in the United squad?
The Dutch midfielder has just penned down a 5-year deal that binds him with the Red Devils until the said time.
The 23-year-old is remarkable for his abilities that has led to streams of goals and assists while still with Ajax and Ole Solskjaer is likely to utilize the midfielder where he works best.
Also exceptional for his ability to recover possession, with Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba in the United Squad, de Beek could be better utilized in the deeper role.
POGBA + BEEK/MATIC + FERNANDES (4-2-3-1)
It’s clear and factual that Bruno Fernandes won’t lose his place amid Beek’s arrival considering that Solskjaer loves the 4-2-3-1 formation which would detail Van de Beek as the number 10.

This would mean, Bruno pushing forward to provide proper assist to Anthony Martial while leaving the center of the pitch worries to Paul Pogba and Van de Beek as the both are likely to be paired at the center.
Although, despite having averaged 2.2 tackles per 90 minutes which is not even far from Nemanja Matic’s 2.6 average tackles per 90 minutes, Van de Beek is clearly not as defensive minded as Matic but he is still not a player one can just drive through.
The Dutch man’s arrival would also ease the stress United face when they come against teams that use low blocks to torment United’s attacking system. In the sense that Van de Beek’s ability to take up brilliant positions even when he isn’t with the ball would help United.
Secondly, he is brilliant with passes and that would go a long way in helping United’s build-up play should he be deployed to the center.
Although this doesn’t dash out the chances of Matic participating in the games as Ole might still decide to still with the Serbian especially when he wants to go into a game defensively. But Pogba-Beek-Fernandes in the center three sounds enticing, especially from the attacking perspective.
MATIC + POGBA + BEEK + FERNANDES (4-3-3)
On the other hand, Solskjaer might decide to switch to a 4-3-3 formation if he wishes to see Matic still in the Holding position but that would mean Bruno Fernandes moving to the number 10 role while Paul Pogba takes on the left side of the center and Beek on the right side.
According to stats and reports, Pogba’s best performances have mostly come from him featuring on the center-left and it won’t be a bad idea if he returns to this position.
Nemanja Matic in the center then provides that killer smell in the midfield as Beek and Pogba could easily storm out in attack leaving the center to Matic who can perfectly hold things together.
Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial now can easily link up with Bruno Fernandes who will draw closer to them while they still have the options to stretch to lines which also gives Pogba and Beek goal-scoring opportunities.
With these outlined two line-ups, which do you think would serve better?? Which should Solskjaer go for?
