Frank Lampard has broken the silence over Fikayo Tomori’s future at Chelsea following the young defender’s lack of tangible game time this season.
Fikayo Tomori debuted for Chelsea’s first team last season after his loan at Derby and was an important factor in Chelsea’s top four finish.
The defender has found himself struggling for game time this season following the arrival of veteran defender Thiago Silva.
The arrival of the former PSG captain has seen Fikayo Tomori drop down to fifth in Chelsea’s centre back pecking order.
The young Englishman couldn’t even earn a starting spot today against League two side Morecambe FC.
He came on for Kurt Zouma in the closing moments of the second half, playing only around ten minutes.
Recent reports in the past few weeks are now stating that Fikayo Tomori might be going out on another loan given his current situation at Chelsea.
Leeds United and Newcastle United are the two clubs reported to be highly interested in signing Tomori on loan.
He was close to joining West Ham on loan last summer but ended up staying at Chelsea to fight for his place.
Frank Lampard has now broken the Silence on Tomori’s future at the club.
“The situation with Fikayo is open at the moment,” Lampard said in his post-match interview today.
“There is a possibility he could be going on loan to get games somewhere else. So that would have to be the solution for him and the club. That was part of my thinking of not starting him today.
“I gave him some minutes at the end but while we were looking at that I wanted to make sure it was the right thing for the club and for him and individually. So that’s why he didn’t start.
“But his attitude, even though he hasn’t played much recently, has been fantastic in training and in how he is.” Lampard concluded.
Chelsea defeated Morecambe 4 nil at Stamford Bridge today and they face Fulham next.
