According to FIFA rules, players who are not released by their club sides for an international window.
Before the current international break, premier league clubs refused to release their players for international duty if it meant traveling to Covid-19 red list countries with countries in Africa and South America mostly affected.
Premier League clubs feared risking a 10 day quarantine for their players if they were permitted to travel to red list countries which meant there were to miss a host of crucial games upon return from international duty. Hence, players were not allowed to travel to most parts of South America and Africa from the UK.
Brazil are now set to trigger the FIFA ban on those players that were not allowed to turn up for international duty and 8 key premier league players who were initially called up to the Brazil squad have been affected as they’d have to be out of action for 5 days for their respective clubs in order to serve the ban.
The club most affected is Liverpool as they’d be without 3 key players; Allison Becker, Fabinho and Roberto Firmino for this weekend’s premier league game and the champions league fixture next midweek.
Manchester City are also set to be without Ederson and Gabriel Jesus for this period. Chelsea’s Thiago Silva and Man Utd’s Fred are also among the list of players set to miss 2 important games while Raphinha of Leeds United would miss 1 game as his side have no mid-week engagements.
