Chelsea are reportedly set to step up their attempts to land Edouard Mendy from Rennes this week.
The pursuit of Mendy is being led by the Blues’ technical and performance director Petr Cech.
It’s been reported that bids have already been made by Chelsea and rejected by Rennes.
However, according to the Mirror, the club are now going to push forward to try and get a deal over the line.

Check out pictures of Kai Havertz’s first day as a Chelsea player!
The £70m man spent Saturday training at Cobham with his new teammates to boost his fitness after leaving the Germany camp to complete his move to Stamford Bridge.
Germany boss Joachim Low admits he has mixed emotions about Kai Havertz and Timo Werner joining Chelsea – with the Bundesliga losing two of their top stars to the Premier League this summer.
Werner, 24, completed a £45.5 million move from Leipzig to Stamford Bridge back in July and fellow countryman, Havertz, followed suit late on Friday night.
The 21-year-old attacking midfielder was given permission to leave Germany’s training camp in Stuttgart to finalise a switch after Chelsea agreed a £71m deal with Bayer Leverkusen for his signature.
Havertz was pictured in Chelsea training for the first time on Saturday and Low has confirmed that the youngster will play no part in Germany’s Nations League clash with Switzerland on Sunday evening.
Reacting to Chelsea’s summer business, the Germany manager said: “I see it as negative when such great talents as Kai are no longer in the Bundesliga.
“But I also see the positives. The players develop their personalities abroad. I think if Kai and Timo take the next step at Chelsea, that will of course help us.”
Havertz revealed his ambitions to win major silverware in his first interview with Chelsea and revealed the ‘big impact’ Frank Lampard had on his decision to join the Blues.
“Of course he had a big impact on my decision because I loved him as a player and watched him very often,” he told the club’s official website.
“I think I can learn from him now he is a manager as well.
“I think he is a very humble person and a great guy and I can’t wait to play with him and learn from him.”

Chelsea legend Ashley Cole has singled out the key attributes of West Ham and England star Declan Rice.
Rice has been linked with a summer move to Chelsea – the club he left as a 14-year-old. But West Ham have reportedly slapped a £70million price tag on the defensive midfielder’s head.
Rice has become an integral part of the West Ham side in recent seasons and is becoming a growing influence for England boss Gareth Southgate at international level.
Cole reckons Southgate is building his midfield around Rice and believes he has every reason to do so with the attributes he has.
“I would say yes [England are building around Rice],” Cole said on Sky Sports.
“Gareth alluded to maybe Dier wanting to play centre-back a little bit more and I think Rice can step in.
“I think he’s been very good for West Ham, he’s definitely a key player for West Ham.
“What he brings [is] he can tackle, he can break up play, he’s clever, and he can pass.
“So you want him to be brave on the ball, break things up, but then penetrate through lines with a quality pass that he’s got.
“He’s a big, strong lad, he’s not afraid to put himself about and win tackles.”

Nicolas Anelka claims Frank Lampard has a ‘great chance’ to bring the Premier League trophy back to Chelsea next season, with the club flexing their financial muscles in an incredible spending spree this summer.
The Blues have made up for lost time in the wake of their two-window transfer ban by signing six players – Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Ben Chilwell, Thiago Silva, Malang Sarr and Kai Havertz – for a combined total over £200million over the last few weeks.
However, Liverpool and Manchester City remain firm favourites to win the English top flight next term, with Chelsea and Manchester United viewed as outsiders for the title.
But Anelka feels the Blues have made up serious ground on their rivals this summer and now have a realistic shot at lifting the trophy for the first time since Antonio Conte steered them to the title back in 2016/17.
“I think they have a great chance to win the title. It depends on what Liverpool and Manchester City will do as well,” the ex-Chelsea striker told Stadium Astro.
“But he’s got the quality to finish fourth in the league last season and, with the signings, he’s got the quality to win it.
“It depends after in terms of the experience of the players whether they are strong enough to race until the end but the quality is in Chelsea as well.
“So I believe first, second or third. We will see a great Chelsea at the end.”

Jadon Sancho insists he is focusing on his football rather than any transfer links to other clubs.
The England international was heavily linked with a move from Borussia Dortmund to Manchester United this summer but the two clubs failed to agree a deal in time.
Chelsea have also been credited with an interest in the attacker.
Yet, in an interview with Soccer Bible, Sancho says speculation is not something he pays much attention to.
They asked: “There’s always talk of moves linking you with Premier League clubs. Do you ever wish that would just go away?”
Sancho replied: “No, the media’s the media.
“They’re always going to try and create a story, but this is how you manage it.
“For me, I just focus on my football. I just want to do what’s best for my team and win titles at the end of the day.”
