Chelsea have been hunting for a centre-back since last summer and made several failed attempts to land French centre-back Jules Kounde in the previous transfer window.

Matthijs De Ligt is a highly rated centre-back and has played at the highest levels right from his days at Ajax.

Chelsea sold Kurt Zouma to West Ham in the summer and the Blues would definitely need a new centre-back to fill the void. Matthijs De Ligt perfectly suits the profile Chelsea are looking fot as he’s amassed a lot of experience as a Netherlands international captaining Ajax before moving on to Italian giants Juventus.

Chelsea are currently struggling to agree a new contract with centre-back Toni Rudiger whose contract expires next summer and De Ligt might just fill the void peradventure the German leaves.

Matthijs De Ligt scored the winner for Juventus in their 3-2 win over Spezia last night in what was the Old Ladies’ first Serie A win of the season.

The defender has a €150 million clause in his contract which will become active next summer but it is not known whether Chelsea would be willing to pay that much for him.
