Chelsea made a series of signings in the summer of 2020/21 as they acquired the signature of German duo Timo Werner and Kai Havertz from RB Leipzig and Bayer Leverkusen respectively, Hakim Ziyech from Ajax and several other players.
However, despite managing to secure the services of Timo Werner and Kai Havertz up front, Chelsea are still looking to sign a striker who is prolific in front of goal.
Marquee signing from RB Leipzig Timo Werner has exhibited profligacy in front of goal on several occasions as he managed to score just six goals in 35 League outings for Chelsea in his debut season.
This has however forced Chelsea’s manager Thomas Tuchel to be on the hunt for a new striker to lead the line ahead of the 2021/2022 season with Chelsea being linked with strikers like Erling Haaland, Romelu Lukaku, Sasa Kalajdzic and a series of strikers across Europe.
The Champions League defending champions have been linked with Borussia Dortmund’s starlet Erling Haaland who managed to score 27 League goals in 28 League appearances for Dortmund in his first full season at the club.
However, Chelsea are ready to give up on the transfer of Erling Haaland as Borussia Dortmund proves to be a hard shell to crack in the sense that they are not ready to lose their star man this season.
Dortmund has set a staggering €175m price tag on Erling Haaland and Erling Haaland when asked about a potential move to Chelsea claims that he hopes it’s just rumours as he doesn’t believe that such an amount can be paid for a single player.
“I hope it’s only rumours because it’s a lot of money for a player.”
Dortmund have already parted ways with Jadon Sancho this summer in a deal worth £73m to Manchester United and are hereby reluctant to let go of another priced asset.
Chelsea are aware of the situation and have turned their attention to Inter Milan’s striker Romelu Lukaku.
Romelu Lukaku who scored 24 League goals in 36 League games for Inter Milan in the just concluded 2020/2021 campaign has been linked with a move back to England with Chelsea tipped as potential suitors to acquire the signature of the former Manchester United man.
This isn’t the first time Romelu Lukaku will be linked with a Stamford Bridge return as he was close to signing for Chelsea four years after his departure from the club back in 2017.
The deal however fell through due to certain complications involved which led to him signing for EPL rivals Manchester United under the management of Jose Mourinho.
Chelsea are however ready to fork out and fund the transfer of Lukaku back to Chelsea.
Inter’s stance on Romelu Lukaku’s transfer rumours is quite similar to Dortmund’s verdict on Erling Haaland’s transfer speculations as Inter Milan blatantly states that they have no intention to sell the former Manchester United star.
Romelu Lukaku dealt the 2020/2021 UEFA Champions League champions a huge blow by reiterating that he has no intention to leave the Scudetto defending champions.
He said: “Yes, I am staying. I’ve already had contact with the man who normally becomes our new manager. Maybe I shouldn’t say that yet. It was a very positive conversation. There’s also the challenge of doing it again (winning the league). I feel good at Inter.”
Chelsea are believed to have set a huge sum of £120m aside to fund a move for a new striker ahead of the 2021/2022 campaign and it remains to be seen if they can acquire their reported targets.
