German Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund has reportedly included Chelsea forward, Timo Werner in a shortlist of strikers the club would sign should Erling Haaland leave next summer.
Erling Haaland has a release clause of £68 million in his contract that becomes active next summer and as such top European clubs are already lurking around for his services. And according to SportBild, Chelsea forward Timo Werner is in a list of forwards being looked at to replace the Norwegian.
Timo Werner has not hit the heights quite expected of him since his move to Chelsea in the summer of 2020 and a move away from the club might just be the way for him to rediscover his form.
Since the arrival of Romelu Lukaku last month, Timo Werner has dropped down the pecking order of strikers at Chelsea and has only managed 9 minutes of club football in 4 matches played.
It’s not quite clear yet what’s in stall for Timo Werner at Chelsea. He could probably rediscover the form he lost as Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has spoken of finding games where he could pair the German alongside Romelu Lukaku up front.
But with Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich lurking, a move back to Germany seems quite ideal for the former RB Leipzig man.
