Chelsea defensive target snubs the club to reach agreement with Real Madrid

According to recent reports from Marca, Real Madrid has beaten Chelsea in the race to land Bayern Munich defender David Alaba.

The Bayern Munich defender will join Real Madrid as a free agent in July, after successful negotiations with the club.

Alaba was linked with a move to the Premier League with the likes Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City reported to be interested.

Chelsea were reported to be the most interested in the race for Alaba as the Blues seek a mid/long term replacement for Thiago Silva.

Alaba was also seen as a very good back up for Ben chilwell and potentially N’golo Kante as he could play as a defensive midfielder too.

Barcelona and PSG also held strong interest, but the Madrid giants have been at the front of the race in recent weeks and it seems the deal has reached an agreement and will be finalised soon.

Alaba has been free to negotiate with clubs since the turn of the year and Real haven’t messed about. The 28-year-old has undergone a medical and agreed a salary of just under £10million a year.
