Chelsea have surprisingly added another preseason friendly match to their fixture list and it happens to be scheduled after Chelsea’s Premier League opener against Crystal Palace, making Chelsea’s fixture list congested.
The Blues are expected to travel to Belfast on the 11th of August to face Europa League winners Villarreal, after which they are expected to launch their 2021/2022 Premier League campaign three days after against the Eagles.
However, it has been reported that Chelsea are to face National league side Weymouth behind closed doors at Cobham a day after their clash with Crystal Palace.
Brian Stock who manages Weymouth said: “I was contacted by Carlo Cudicini (loans manager) regarding a potential fixture on a weekend we were struggling for a fixture.
“Given the fact our league starts later than any other league trying to find a fixture was proving difficult.
“We were delighted to accept the invitation against regular senior first-team players and give our squad of players that vital tough test leading into our first league game of the season.”
The Champions of Europe will look to take on the Terras (Weymouth). However, it remains to be seen how Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel utilises the use of first teamers knowing fully well that Chelsea will have to lock horns with Crystal Palace and Weymouth in a space of two days.
