Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta has become one of Chelsea’s greatest players ever after spending 9 years at the club.
The Spaniard has won literally all trophies that is there to be won as a Chelsea player with the most recent being captaining the team to a UEFA Champions League triumph and a UEFA Super Cup.
The Spaniard was on media duties alongside his coach Thomas Tuchel in Chelsea’s press conference ahead of their UCL game with Zenit tomorrow.
Azpilicueta’s contract expires next summer and it is not clear whether the Chelsea captain would be offered an extension or not.
Azpilicueta has expressed optimism about the situation and says he remains focused.
“I don’t have any concerns. I feel fully trusted by the club. Sure, my contract ends in June but I’m focused on now. Everything will take care of itself. I don’t need to say anymore.”
“I just need to keep on doing what I’m doing. I love to be here, I feel loved, my aim is to be here for as long as I can.”
Cesar Azpilicueta’s status as a Chelsea legend is undisputed and even though he’s already above 30, his standards have barely dropped.
Chelsea might offer the 32 year old only a one year extension though which is in line with the club’s policy for players aged 30 and above.
