Former Manchester United player Ashley Young has urged his former club to sign PSG midfielder Marco Verratti.
Marco Verratti dropped a Masterclass against Manchester City on Tuesday, a performance that has drawn a lot of admiration from football lovers worldwide including Man City boss Pep Guardiola who says he’s in love with the Italian.
Ashley Young is Verratti’s latest admirer and the winger who is now at Aston Villa believes the PSG star would help solve Man Utd’s problems in midfield if he moves to the club.
Young believes Verrati could be the replacement for ex midfielder and legend Michael Carri Man Utd have lacked that sort of presence in midfield since the midfielder’s departure.
Speaking to BBC as quoted by Mirror football via Stretty news, Young expressed his delight with Verratti’s champions league performance and urged his former club to sign the Italian. Even though he gave credit to what Scott McTominay and Fred are doing in midfield currently, the Aston Villa winger still believes Verrati would make the much needed difference for his former team.
“The Michael Carrick type has been missing for years — Man United haven’t gone out and replaced Michael Carrick.”
“Don’t get me wrong — Fred and [Scott] McTominay are good players but I don’t think there’s a Michael Carrick around.”
“I was watching the PSG v [Manchester] City game and I think Marco Verratti is the closest one and nobody’s gone out to test the waters to try to sign him. I think he would be an unbelievable signing for Man United.”
Marco Verratti was one of the most important players for Italy in the summer as the Azzurri won the Euros, a form and class the midfielder has always replicated for club.
