Arsenal news LIVE: How Bendtner lost £400k in 90 minutes, Arteta’s Ceballos intervention, Wilshere reveals Wenger advice and future plans

Arsenal completed their transfer business on deadline day with the £45million signing of Thomas Partey and Mikel Arteta will now look to continue the feelgood factor around the Emirates.
The Gunners had already added Willian from Chelsea and Gabriel from Lille, but finally strengthened their midfield with the signing of the Ghana international.

Arsenal are now said to be looking to offload Mesut Ozil, with the hierarchy willing to pay up part of his contract so he can join another club for nothing now.

The World Cup winner is unlikely to go quietly though, and his offer to help save mascot Gunnersaurus’ job has been branded ‘an inappropriate PR stunt’.

The mood around north London was further dampened by the news that Kieran Tierney must self-isolate as a result of Stuart Armstrong’s positive COVID test, while the Hale End academy has been forced to shut after a senior member of staff tested positive.

Thomas Partey has sent a message to Arsenal fans following his move from Atletico Madrid.

The midfielder, who moved to north London after his £45m release clause was triggered, signed on deadline day.

Currently on international duty with Ghana, Partey will have to wait to meet up with his teammates but it’s safe to say we’re all excited to see what he brings to North London so no doubt they are too.

“Hi guys, thanks so much for the love and for the message I have received. I can’t wait to be part of you guys, I can’t wait to join the team”, he said on Twitter.

“It’s a great feeling to be part of a family like this. Thanks so much to everyone for the love, I feel so grateful and I feel so amazed to be part of you. I can’t wait to join you guys.

“And don’t forget, no Thomas, No Partey!”

Arsenal are set to loan out centre back William Saliba to Championship side Brentford, according to reports.

The Gunners signed the 19-year-old defender from Saint-Etienne for £27million last summer, with the agreement stating he would remain at the Ligue 1 side for another season.

However, injuries curtailed his progress before the French league was cancelled last season due to the coronavirus pandemic, but fans of the north London club were nevertheless excited at the possibility of seeing him in the Gunners back line this campaign.

But according to ESPN, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta believes he needs to develop further before he can hope to break into the first team at Emirates Stadium.

The report claims the Spaniard wants the Frenchman to focus particularly on improving his defending from set pieces and also to work on maturity in his play, which involves not diving in to tackles.

Watford are also reportedly considering rivalling Brentford with a bid of their own before the October 16 deadline between Premier League and EFL clubs to do deals.

Arsenal have a new name among their top ten biggest ever signings following their stunning deadline day swoop for Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey.

The Gunners were after the Ghanaian throughout the 2020 summer transfer window and finally paid his £45million buyout clause to land him at the last minute.

He joins the likes of Nicolas Pepe, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette on Arsenal’s list of priciest deals.

Pepe remains the most expensive player to head to north London but is yet to truly show his best for the club.

He’ll be hoping to hit top form in the top-flight this season and justify his mammoth price-tag.

Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez are also on the list and have both enraged the fanbase over recent years for differing reasons.

The Gunners’ top ten is certainly a mix of success stories, pricy flops and a bit of everything in-between.

Former Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner has revealed he blew £400k in 90 minutes at a casino while playing for the Gunners in 2011.

Recalling the incident, the Dane told The Guardian: “I’m way too drunk to sit at a table.

“That much I get. But roulette is a different matter. Red, black, red, black. How hard can it be?

“After 90 minutes I’ve lost £400,000. Money I don’t have. My bank account is overdrawn and I’m bankrupt if my luck doesn’t turn.

“I stagger into the loos and splash water on my face. Then I find a cashier and get another £50,000 of chips.”
