Chelsea’s striker Romelu Lukaku completed his move back to the bridge after Chelsea agreed to pay a staggering sum of £98million to Inter Milan following a rebuffed offer of player plus cash.
Romelu Lukaku has however been nothing short of breathtaking since his return to Chelsea despite having played just two games in which he scored on his second debut against city rivals Arsenal and also leading a 10-man Chelsea to savage a draw against Liverpool on their turf (Anfield).
However, Lukaku wasn’t the only player who made a return to the Premier League as former Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo also completed a move back to Manchester United on deadline day after Manchester United agreed to pay €15million to acquire the services of the five time ballon d’or winner.
Prior to Lukaku’s move back to Chelsea, he signed for Inter Milan a year after Cristiano Ronaldo completed a move to Serie A giants Juventus, and since then he has drawn comparisons with Cristiano Ronaldo.
In the just concluded 2020/21 season, Romelu Lukaku managed to score 24 goals across 36 League appearances for Inter Milan while Cristiano Ronaldo scored 29 league goals in 33 outings for the Bianconeri, hereby winning him the golden boot award.
Of the 24 league goals Romelu Lukaku managed to score for the Nerazzurri, six were penalties. Ronaldo also managed to score six of the eight penalties he played for Juventus last season.
Lukaku however edges Ronaldo statistically when it comes to assists rendered as the 28 year old Belgian striker provided 11 assists in the just concluded Serie A campaign while Ronaldo rendered just two assists. Atalanta’s Ruslan Malinovskyi however rendered the most assists as he was able to oust Lukaku by just one assist (12 assists).
Romelu Lukaku’s numbers sum up to 35 goals and assists while Ronaldo boasts of a total of 31 goals and assists in the Serie A. With Lukaku having played a total of 2888 minutes in the Serie A last term, his minute per goal and assist ratio happens to be 83′, while Ronaldo who played a total of 2803 minutes in the just concluded Serie A boasts of a minute per goal and assist ratio of 90′.
With statistics in favour of Lukaku, he has been compared with Ronaldo by fans and pundits across the globe as some deem it fit to rate the Belgian all time top scorer with the five time UEFA Champions League winner.
However, Lukaku has responded to reports comparing him with the Portuguese star.
He said: “Don’t ever compare me to Cristiano Ronaldo, never.
“Cristiano Ronaldo is, for me, in the top three best players in the history of football. I’m not going to rank him from first to third but he’s in there.
“What he has achieved in football today for players of my generation is something exceptional.
“I was lucky enough to play against him in Italy and now that he’s back in the Premier League, it’s all good for English football
As for the rest, comparing statistics and all that, it’s useless.”
